Design Integration at CIMS
At Chadwick International Middle School (CIMS), we teach MYP Design as a framework — a problem-solving scaffold. The "Design" subject is taught in an integrated/inter-disciplinary model in grade level subject areas (Grades 6, 7, and 8 — MYP Years 1, 2, and 3). The CIMS Design Team works with other subject teachers at their assigned grade levels to explore teaching units where design may be integrated.
The CIMS Design Team also brings the integrated subject of Design to classes in Grades 9 and 10 in the Upper School division through the same collaborative model. Additionally, teachers are encouraged to submit their Design Integration requests/ideas through an online form — click here. Based on conversations with teachers, the CIMS Design Team then schedules in the period when Design will be integrated into the subject areas. A Design Integration Plan/Schedule on Google Sheets is published for public view in order to help with logistics. Click here to take a look at our Design Integration Plan/Schedule.
